Read Aloud: Ten Flashing Fireflies
Ten Flashing fireflies by Philemon Sturges, is a wonderful book to read to your littles. It has soft nighttime illustrations that help bring the feeling of catching fireflies to life. It brings back loving memories for me when I was little. I loved catching fireflies in a jar when I was little. I would put them on my nightstand and when I was sound asleep, my grandparents would take the jar and let them all go. The next night I would get to go out and catch them again. Our littles need to learn that each number is different and means something different. Continue to read to find fun ways to help littles learn about numbers.

How to Use a Garden for Learning
Gardening was always a favorite way to spend time with my dad when I was little. I loved to plant seeds and plants and trees. I just loved being out there and talking with my dad as we “played” in the dirt or collected the fruits of our labors. What I didn’t realize was that the whole time I was out there I was learning academic materials, such as science, math, and literacy, I was learning social and family skills as well. I was also learning that we can produce our own food, and boy did it taste so much better than the food we bought from the store. I…

How to Stop the “I Wants” at the Store
My son always wanted something from every store we went into. He would ask for his favorite cereal or crackers at the grocery store. When at Target or Walmart it was a toy or book. When we would go to the mall it never failed that he would find something he wanted. I almost never gave into his I wants, but they were frequent and I would get angry at times. He almost sounded greedy and I know that was not how we had raised him. I had to do something. Shopping with your older child can bring on a case of, what I call, the “I wants”. It gets…
